London, July 19 (IANS) Hollywood filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro has promised fans that he will not copy 'Lord of the Rings' director Peter Jackson while filming 'The Hobbit'.
Del Toro is refusing to imitate Jackson and is promising to give fans something new with the film version of 'The Hobbit', the prequel to J.R.R. Tolkien's 'Lord of The Rings' trilogy, reports contactmusic.com.
Del Toro said: 'If I thought it was about following Jackson, I wouldn't be doing it this way. It's a matter of raising on it. I think 'The Hobbit' has a peculiar spirit in relation to not only the trilogy, but also to Tolkien's work. It'll have respect for what has been done, but also its own individuality.'
Del Toro gained acclaim for directing such hits as 'Hellboy' and 'Pan's Labyrinth'. Original ArticleSo do you view this as a good thing or a bad thing? Are you excited about it - if it gets off the ground of course.

Hmm. I think this could be a good thing. I, for one, would not want the Hobbit to be a total immitation of The Lord of the Rings. I think it would be good to get a new sense of life and mystery into the movie.
However, I also believe that if he tries to be too different, it could lose it's Middle Earth life.
It can be very well done, in fact it can be perfect. But edge a little too far in one direction or the other and it can be alot less than perfect, I think.

Alas - having yet to see anything by Del Toro I cannot comment fully on whether this would be a good thing our a bad thing - for as has already been said should it be too different then it will not make much sense - but should it be too the same then it will stray too far from the feel of The Hobbit.
